Ronald William Webb

on the 10/10/2012 i went to an exhibition.
his website http://www.ronaldwilliamwebb.com/

oh wow!!!!
went to a mini exhibition in a local cafe/restaurant (Blakeys) and had a mini lecture from this amazing artist. i absolutely love this guy now as a person and an artist he is beautiful. if only i could afford his work because i fell in love with two of his pieces.
was told  there was a mini exhibitions at blakeys and that fine art students were going (oh no i cant go), but then jamie said anyone else who wants to go then they are welcome too (yey!!). i love goint to exhibitions and the fact that we were getting to meet the artist was amazing. at this point i didnt know what type of art he created and what the artsit was called or even what sex he was but i was still hyped and wanted to go.
first impressions when i walked in was "really!". was slightley disappointed because it was abstract however it was still beautiful and i was still interested in learning about it. the artsit himself was sooo cute, he was a gentlemen and greeted us at the door and shook our hands and thanked us for comeing and welcomed us in which was lovely of him. we sat down and got the ball rolling and as he spoke i fell in love with his work and him as an artist.

he started by saying how this was and "old mans work" (which made me giggle for some reason but i didnt i held it in like a good girl). he went on to talk about how he travels the world (i want to do that!) and sells his abstract work; and this mini exhibition is influenced by classical music, (this is when it got interesting and i was in ore of him). he lives in Majorca (lucky man!), and his work is influenced by light and hence making it colourful; he said he was really cold here, blackburn weather is freezing.
this is his house :O no fair !
one day his friend who said how he didnt think he liked abstract art but despite this thought that Webb should try and paint using music as an influence so he tried this and used the music of Kathrine Ferrier, who he loved (she is pretty amazing!).he went on to sell a painting for £200 pounds and this kik started his career. he started his days as a teacher for special needs children and us to do art with them, after 12 years however he sadly got ill and developed multiople scerosis (poor man), however despite being ill for 2 years he carried on painting.

his paintings are all created by using oil paints (he said hes not clever enough to use watercolour, but i doubt that), well he layers his paint on top of eachother creating abstract shapes and a beautiful contrast of colours. he uses different sizes of brushes starting with bigger brushes and working through to smaller ones, (i could adopt this style). i dont personally appreciate abstract art but i felt a connection to his work because the man behind it was sooo pationate and similar to me in a weird way (mother says i am an old soul). his work is always very personal i think and hes not one of these artist that mixes politics and art (despite him being very political). his work was merely a reaction to life and in this case music.

he explained how he wasnt connected to any of his paintings because it was just work and he would paint, sell and move on, it was his job at the end of the day. he came across as a perfectionist becasue he explained how his first pieces of work was weak and he doesnt want to really see them ever again which is supriseing. but i know how he feels because sometimes i create something and over time my style changes and my mindset of what my art should look like changes and the past work isnt good enough. he explained how he so never truly happy with what he does and he always wants to redo stuf, he explained how if he had his own way hed work back into 3 of the paintings that he wasnt happy with.
he came across as a very good salesmen, he is a business man and he has a good body of rich people who buy and collect his work. hes identifyed his market and made work that would sell. he explained how galleries like there to be one big painting so people can look and say they cant afford that one so theyd buy a small one so he has to paint small pieces. he comes across as a brilliant salesman his art isnt very hard to do basically hes doing it to make money but arent we all. he doesnt really believe in having a degree (he doesnt have one himself) because lecturers always want people to paint like them and he doesnt believe in telling someone how to paint but let people get into themselves with their own style.

the paintings names and prices! love to be making money like this!

explains it self, we got these pieces of pf papers when we went to the exhibition
despite the negatives he did say some brillaint things about how we should "learn all the rules and then brake them" because thats exactly what hes done and it works for him.
he did talk about his inspiration and he mentioned my favorite artist Johanson Vermeer, i absolutly love this artist and he created my favorite painting "the gilr with the pearl earing" (im soo obsessd iv read the book loads and watch the movie even more). i was able to relate to this artist in the weirdest way and despite not appreciateing abstract i did like one or two paintings, but i like pre-raphalite stuff. i feel that it has more meaning and realism is important to me. however self expression is and there for abstract can be appreciated in that sense. you cant look at and abstract painting/piece of work and understand were the artist is coming from unless you speak to him and we were lucky the artist was here and went through each paiting and explained what inspired it and it helps you appreciate, understand and respect were the artist was coming from and what he was tring to say. i dont think the meanings behinf Webbs paintings were brilliant or deep but there was still an meaning however small it is the paitning was inspired and that should be appreciated.
the artist did have loads of faith in his work and he had loads of confidence in it despite people saying things like "my seven year old child can do better", he still carried on becasue he was making thousands of pounds and had a good career goin so he had every right to be confident, (id love to be that confident in my career as a creative person).

"the voice" (70cm x 70cm) was inspired by "the colours of a beutiful voice"
this was my favorite painting!
"A little Baroque music" (50cm x 50cm) was inspired by how "the music and architecture of the Borique inform this little painting
was only £350 i could afford that but didnt like it that much.

"waly waly" (60cm x 120cm) insdpired by "a sad, dark song about trechery in love
i like it becasue its so depressing and intense.

"Passion" (97cm x 195cm) , "i try to capture my passion for kathleens artistry, her passion for great music and, of course, the St Matthew passion of J.S.Bach.
his work is interesting to me because it uses similar colour ideas an the style of applying colour to a canvas. looking back after i had created my little outlines style im really tempted to out like his work.the fact he is influenced from music made me think about what influences my angry work. i realised that when i am actually creating my pieces im listening to screamo and rock! now everything makes sense. this type of music stimulates my brain and keeps me ticking if i get board or distracted i stop and loose track and cant finish my work sometimes. and its fast and loud so blocks out noise and makes you work fast which gets stuff done; if it wasn't for music i would never finish outlining in time. so it was nice meeting someone with the same influences and sort of similar style. because for both of us if we didn't have music we would not have much work! scary thought ...
